  1. What style of Karate is taught?

    We teach Shotokan Karate.  This is a modern, progressive style of training using up to date methods whilst retaining fundamental aspects of the traditional style.

  3. Can anyone join?

    Yes.  All we require is that you are willing to take part and are in general good health.

  5. Who do I contact to join?

    If you are interested in joining any of our sessions, please come to the centre at the beginning of the session and contact a member of staff. 

    We would recommend you watch the session and ask any relevant questions of the instructor before making your final decision.

  7. Is their a minimum membership period?

    No.  Although, if you are joining the karate association you will have an annual membership.

  9. Have all the instructors had a back ground check by the police?

    Yes.  All the instructors have had full background checks.  If you would like to see the documentation, please ask the relevant instructor for details.

  11. Is there a qualified first-aider at every training session?

    Yes.  A fully qualified first aider is present during every training session.

  13. What would happen if I injured myself during training?

    This would depend on the injury.  The injury would be assessed at the time and then the appropriate action taken.  All injuries are noted in the accident/incident book. Sensei Marie Peck is also a fully qualified physiotherapist.

  15. What would happen if other commitments got in the way?

    We understand work and other commitments sometimes take priority, however do ask you attend training when possible.

  17. What equipment would I need?

    If after an initial period you decide to continue with us, you will require a karate suit, training mitts and leg pads.  We can supply all required equipment at cost price.

  19. Do I have to attend the tournaments?

    No.  It is recommended for people who wish to progress within the karate world to attend as many tournaments as possible, however we do understand that is not always possible.  Where possible we will try to provide alternative transport arrangements for people who do not have access to their own.

  21. Do I have to fight?

    No.  Competition fighting is purely down to each individual member, although some fighting ability is required for grading once a student reaches purple and white belt or above.
